CALLING CAR 42

No Race Driver would ever start a race without his race radioJim, Dan, & Larry turned on. Communications between driver, Crew chief, and spotter are a "must do" function of racing.  But using a cell phone!?  It will happen this weekend between Driver Dan Pardus and Crew Chief, Larry Moore.

Larry, an experienced Late Model and ARCA driver is scheduled to race the 100 lap Dirt Late Model Dream Race VII. The race will run Saturday night at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Eldora Speedway is about 200 miles from Michigan Speedway where Dan is racing in the ARCA Bondo-Mar Hyde Series on Saturday afternoon.

Talking with Larry in Clermont, Florida where he was making final preparations on his racecar, Larry commented, "The big race will be between speedways. Dan qualifies on Thursday the 8th. I will be in Michigan setting up Dan's car for qualifying that morning. I will stay at Michigan Speedway until Friday morning practice is over and then "race" down the Interstate to Rossburg. I qualify my car there on Friday night."

Larry noted, " I had entered the Dream Race and two other races at Eldora before being offered the Crew Chief position at Jim & Judie Motorsports. My first thought was to cancel these events, however, Jim and Dan encouraged me to keep the schedule."
It just might be a good decision. Larry is a three-time winner of the famous World 100 feature at Eldora.

Larry will be driving a late model stock car built on a Barry Wright chassis by Coffman Corvettes of Clermont, Florida. The car is powered with a Parramore Performance engine, producing 840 horsepower. Late Model stock cars have a weight restriction of 2200 pounds with driver compared to a 3400 pound Winston Cup car. With that much horsepower on a lighter chassis, you must remember to turn left before you step on the gas.

Larry added, "I know we'll be talking a lot on the cell phone. I will miss not being in the pits during Dan's race, but we'll stay in touch by phone throughout the weekend."

Dan and Jim plan to be in Rossburg on Saturday night by the start of Larry's first heat race. Larry quipped, "They may be late if Dan's Victory Lane celebration is extended. If so, they can call me." :)
