OOPS!
The final results are in from the three manufacturers tests held at Daytona during the month of January. Topping the speed charts in non-drafting runs were Matt Kenseth in a Ford @ 182.271. Following were Steve Park in a Chevrolet @ 182.190 and Tony Stewart in a Pontiac @
182.065. The fastest Dodge was Stacy Compton who recorded a top speed of 180.821. With 52 teams testing multiple cars during the test sessions, the speed chart range was from 182.271 to a low posted by Carl Long @ 173.077. Twenty four drivers failed to break 180 mph during the test sessions.
During the ARCA RE/MAX series testing held @ the speedway in December, Dan Pardus recorded a top speed of 183.745. OOPS! Faster than all the Cup cars. In fact most of the ARCA drivers testing were faster than the Cup cars.
Speaking from the shop in Charlotte, Crew Chief Larry Moore said, "I think we can expect a little tinkering with the rules before the race in February. The Powers-That-Be are never happy when we run faster than the Cup cars. Whatever they finally mandate, we still believe we will run up front."

THE FLORIDA TEST
(HANGING CHADS AND DIMPLES!)
Contacted at his home in Port Orange, Florida, Dan Pardus stated that Hanging Chads and Dimples have always been a concern at Daytona International Speedway. The high bank turns at the 2 1/2 mile oval demand smooth surfaces and clean air. Dimples in the sheet metal
can cause drag and slow the car down. A protruding bit of metal (chad) can displace the air flow and create handling problems
Dan added. We hope to eliminate these problems before the race. ARCA officials rarely change race results...Full Story
RED LIGHT/GREEN LIGHT
DAN PARDUS STARTS 22ND, FINISHES 11TH IN GEORGIA BOOT 400
Children play a game called red light/green light. The leader is the stop light. All others line up at a distance behind the stop light. The stop light faces away from the others and says "green light" Everyone tries to move forward towards the stop light. At any point, the stop light may say "red light" and turn around. If he sees anyone moving,
he can make them go back to the starting point. The stop light's decision to make you go back is final.
Dan Pardus and Team 42 got to play a racing version of RED LIGHT/GREEN LIGHT last weekend. During pre-qualifying practice...Full Story

Working through Adversity
Photos from Talladega
Fans like to see twisted sheet metal. Drivers and owners are not keen with it because they know the countless hours spent night after night to hammer out racecar bodies in preparation for race day. On lap 59 at the Winn Dixie 300 ARCA race at Talladega, the "Big One" happened. It
became glory day for sheet metal fabricators when Randall Ritter and Calvin Councilor came together in front of an approaching lead pack of about ten cars drafting together. Dan was at the end of this lead car draft. Trying to drive through the spinning cars in front of him, Dan...Full Story
Find the Gremlins!
(10/5/00) Until you unload the racecar off the transporter at the track and take the first practice lap you'll never know how well it will perform.
The Lowes Motor Speedway car was rebuilt after the August Kentucky Speedway event. "On my first lap, it felt slower than rush hour traffic on I-4". Dan added, "I knew we would be looking for gremlins today."
Crew Chief, Larry Moore got his gremlins-bustin gear out. "We had a miss, so first we changed the carburetor. No improvement. We started changing electrical components. No better. We looked for gremlins in fuel lines and air chambers. They were well hidden." Qualifying time came and the team did
not feel ready. We made the qualifying run at 33.123, our slowest run of the year. We were 3.2 seconds slower than the pole qualifying speed. This was a big obstacle for any driver to overcome in second round qualifying...Full Story

"Survivors"
(8/24/2000-Sparta, KY) The Jim & Judie Motorsports Chevy is not quite race ready with qualifying scheduled within the hour. After completing a good few laps, second fastest in the pre-race qualifying practice session, the car got loose in turn
three, spun & backed into the wall. "I guess I got a little too aggressive. We thought we could be the fastest, now we're the slowest." Dan commented as he surveyed the damage with co-owner Jim Gardner in the garage area.
All is not done for the JJM team this weekend. "We've got a good engine, and we're knocking on doors to find a car to put it in. We'll know something before the day is done. Meanwhile, the crew is gathering at the motorhome to eat some grub
worms, drink rainwater and wait to see if the ARCA Tribal Council votes us out of the garage area.
Stay tuned here for the continuation of "JJM Survivors."
