RAINY DAY BLUES FOR PARDUS
The Outdoor Channel Team was looking forward to a return to Darlington. This is one of our better tracks to run. Once you earn your Darlington Stripe, learn about the different corners and tire management, it is a great track to race and the prestige and history of Darlington pump you up.
A rainy Labor Day weekend brought disappointment. Rain washed out practice and qualifying on Friday and the starting lineup was set by owners points. Dan started 39th.
On Saturday, early morning rains delayed the race start for two hours. The race started under caution, and a malfunctioning fan switch sent Dan to the pits with an overheating radiator. The crew added ice and solved the switch problem. No laps were lost before a red flag stopped the race on lap four due to reoccurring rain showers.
The race restarted under caution and the green flag waved on lap 10 after a two-hour rain delay. On lap 18, Dan was bumped in the rear, did a 360 spin and flat sided the tires. A pit stop was made under caution to change four tires. Dan restarted at the rear of the field on the lead lap.
On lap 31, Kerry Earnhardt and Ricky Hendrick were involved in a crash at Turn Four. Dan slowed to avoid debris and when he resumed speed, something broke in the engine and ended the race day for the Outdoor Channel Chevy Monte Carlo.
The race was halted after 73.5 laps and called official after rain started falling again. Dan finished 39th.
For the whole weekend we ran a total of 42 miles, about half of them under caution. We are looking forward to Richmond next week, hopefully more track time and more racing
